Could decent flat-wounds be worth exploring?As for acoustic strings, I absolutely hate all strings on my Taylor 710BCE (Brazilian Rosewood) until they've dulled down a bit and I'm just hearing the guitar. All the overtones from fresh strings distract from the bell-like, sweet tone that is this guitar. It's the only guitar that does this to me.

Right or wrong, I'm definitely going to head that way.
