Your First Pedal

What was your first pedal, do you still have it?

My friends talked me into buying the Danelectro Fab Tone back in 97. It was the first pedal I bought, I think it was $20 or $30 and minimum wage was $5.25/hr in Massachusetts back then. I no longer have it; never gave me the sound I wanted. As a kid you try to put a square peg in a round hole trying to make a Strat and Fender Practice Amp sound like a Les Paul and Marshall Half Stack....

One of those original Marshall Bluesbreakers bought new in '94 from my local music shop. Had it until a few years ago. The only photo I could find of it was on this old board, it was missing 2 of the original knobs and the input jack nut had threaded the shaft so the jack moved when you put a cable in...moving the whole PCB. It was also a bit rusty and had a sticky switch thanks to spilled beer.
Should've hung on to it for sentimental reasons. ☺️

This one. Killed any desire to buy another.

Excellent ! 😆 😆 😆
I should build one like this, just for the fun ! 😎;)

IIRC, my first one was a BOSS BF-2 Flanger, in purple-pink casing, I bought new it in 1981, and it looked exactly like this one below :

It has long gone now, replaced by a much better MXR M-117 of the same era, which is still here :

A+!

Electroharmonix Battalion. I usually plug directly into the PA at open mics, but someday it might get used as a DI instead of just a distortion while practicing.

Tube screamer in late 80s. The first one of many I bought back and forth during the years without loving any of them.
I just thought that if everyone was loving it, then it was maybe me the wrong one. Never bonded though. I think I bought something like 4 of them 🙂

I don't think I had any pedals as a youngster when I dabbled (I played mostly bass and some acoustic)...but when my son became a bit interested I got a Yamaha Overdrive pedal for him, which he still has - and when I got heavily into playing a few years ago, my first was a Boss looper - which is still my most used pedal.
