Why no GreTsch Bass threads???

I haven't liked one of their basses since the Committee, which in itself is a bass version of the 6 string.

Ooooh, I might be in trouble if I ever ran into one of those....

The Club Jet ones have seemed pretty good for what they are to me when I've played them, I've never run into a more upsacle one to have any kind of opinion on them though. That Tic Tac one from a couple(?) years ago seemed pretty cool in concept to me.

This one is my #1-- A 6073 model. It's been discontinued for several years, but everyone who plays it just raves about it. I call it the "short scale" that plays like a long scale... and it does. I have to use long scale strings because the overall string length is too long by far for short scale strings, even though the fret scale is 30.5 inches.

They don't have a lot of models but that was true of their guitar line until recently. They do have unique ones out there like the Duane Eddy 6 and Tom Petterson 12.

There has never been much traffic for basses in this forum.
I put it down to Gretsch's lack of imagination when it comes to basses, they tend to just 'bassify' a current model and call it good.

Wow! I play a Ricky but I would definatly play this bass live!

I liked the sound of my black 5440LSB, but I ended up selling it. The deep body wasn't for me. Now my only bass is a Squier Bass VI. It works really well for me. Love the look of so many of these Gretsch basses!

I've got my hand on a 2ndhand G5442BDC. Though Catawiki. I hope to pick it up this weekend.

I have mainly Fender basses but Just ordered a G5440LS in Orange from Sweetwater and having them put a Bone Nut on it.
Just curious, anyone who has or has heard the TV Jones Pickup for this bass, how does it compare?

I hav3 a ThunderJet with the ThunderTron pickups. Hard to say how it compares to anything, because the ThunderJet is chambered and I use only flats on my basses. I can tell you it sounds good and my band (country, rock & roll) likes it. I certainly wouldn't change a thing about it.

I just received my 2020 Gretsch G5440LS Bass this afternoon. I love this bass. I have Fender Player series P, Fender American Pro Jazz and ESP LTD B-5E 5string plus 4 Guitars and I have to say this feels as good to play as my American Pro. So far she looks like a keeper.

Today I was in GC and saw a G2220 hanging on the wall:

Yup, got one of those too, and I'll tell you a little secret...
It gets more gig-play time than my other 4 basses combined. (P-bass, Peavey T-45, Gretsch 6073 pictured above, & DeArmond Ashbory)
But that's mainly because I use it the most in my Celtic/Americana band and it gets played by multiple people within the group-- a couple of which prefer the shorter scale. Don't let the price fool you-- there's a lot of bass tone for the money with that model!

The width of the neck at the 12th fret on mine is 2 & 1/32 inches, or 52mm.
