I'm just back from a rehearsal of Link Wray tunes with the Quilter Superblock US. One ten inch speaker. Plenty loud enough with the drummer....but still something amiss compared to tube. However, by the end of the rehearsal I'd grown accustomed to it, maybe it's just an adjustment thing

I’ve had mine for a couple of years now and still like it. Recently, with things loosening up for performances, I’ve been able to use it on stage and one of the interesting things that has come of it for me is that the Sound Tech I use at our Shows LOVES it. What he loves is the DI.
I see... That's what exactly I am afraid of... None - repeat none - of my SF Fenders are mid-sccoped like the Champion 100 or the Fender presets found on usual modelling amps - Fender included (Mustang III).

Maybe their engineers have some kind of bias in favor of scooped out mids? I will say that the Normal channel is a bit nicer/more musical sounding (even with the bright cap mod on the vibrato channel). I assume the other two models (Twin and Super) might work a bit better going straight into the amp, since they both have mids control, but still, in demos I've heard the Tube version always sounds slightly better.
BUT at the low volume I'm playing at I don't know that having the tube versions would be much of an advantage. Hard to say - I wish I could rent a few amps to properly tell.
I experienced the same thing w the Tonemaster deluxe blonde, but to be honest, the same situation is occuring w the Quilter 2oo and 202. Put a preamp in front, add some limiting and they come to life. That said, if youre using that cotton pickin Neo Celestion, get those things out! I put in a tonetubby alnico hempcone and it really made a difference. Yes yes its not light as a feather, who cares.. I dont want feather tone

One thing I've discovered recently that seems to help - I reverted to the original firmware (bright cap ON), and I'm keeping the treble and bass controls VERY low - sometimes all the way down. I still need pedals to complete the picture but that at least provides a better frequency response for Filtertrons (without the bright cap engaged it's too dull at this setting - the bright cap lets you retain the treble but also have some decent mids with the tone controls all the way down).
Do you guys worry that Tone masteramps are unrepairable after the warranty expires? I thought about getting one, but can't get over the fact that my tube amps could last longer as long as tubes continue to be available. If the Tone master fails, you could turn it into a cab or a decoration.

Not really. My guess is it will at minimum last for 20 years without any maintenance. But, way before then I'll probably find something else I like better and sell the ToneMaster.
If it breaks in 10 years and I still have it, what if it's not repairable? I guess I could convert it to a Tube amp or use it as a cab if I really wanted to. But it seems pretty durable. It doesn't get hot, there aren't any moving parts. It should be around for a while.

By the way, I ended up selling this last year. I worked really hard to make it work for me, and convince myself that I liked it, but in the end it just wasn't for me.
