This is a nice documentary of Rainbow and Whisky a Go Go. Lots of big names interviewed, which always makes a good story.

Gene Simmons had a question that made me stop thinking. "From 1958 to 1988, name 100 bands that made timeless music that will live forever ". And he starts listing names. Then he says "From 1988 to date, name 5 such bands. There are none. Not at the same level". I thought it was just me getting old as I agree.

It is just you getting older. Same for Mr. Simmons. Old farts thought Elvis and the Beatles were crap when they were new too. We can praise the music we prefer without this negativity for music we don't. You'd think musicians would be more open minded.

Will try to check out the doc though.

It’s funny.
I can say absolutely that KISS would NOT make that list.

Maybe so. I just can't think of any band from the last 20 years that would get close to my favorite ones. But could be just aging.

I used to find new bands for example from radio. But those stations are long gone. So I might have well missed something.

Nice tip!

Yeah, radio... I listen to only a few, limited to those accessible from the Internet. Trash Can Radio, BBC6,... The latest addition is Radio Caroline :)

That was an interesting time for sure, and that docu was great, I caught it a while back. Im glad I even had a chance to play the Key Club a couple times w my band, as it stood on the legendary "Gazzarri’s" of the Sunset Strip hair farm glory days :) Key Club is now closed too..
Although I do not agree with the sentiment of Mr Simmons, and I hold KISS near and dear to my childhood rock n roll fantasies. They are solely responsible for me swearing that I would spend my life working in the music industry and make money playing guitar and singing. :)
I should have sworn I'd start investing, in the 4th grade instead of the rock n roll thing :) :)
