Pet Sounds is a spectacular album. 'Smile' is also awesome. Two of my favourite albums of all times.

I have similar feelings about The Beach Boys and The Beatles. Don't like the early throw-away pop pap, but love their later works.

I'm beach hippie enough to love the Beach Boys :). Darn beautiful melodies. I don't know many of the original albums, I've got a few of them on CDs though. Good Vibrations (the song) really got me when I heard it for the first time as a kid in the 1970s!

Not from Pet Sounds, but one of their early greats, inspired by The Ronettes, Be My Baby. I love the live, vintage (1965) performances. :)

Pet Sounds IMO is just a great album. Caroline, No and God Only Knows are burned into my brain.

Caroline, No
actually works great as a solo fingerpicking + vocal song.
Another one I love from PS, not one of the hits, is "I Just Wasn't Made For These Times." Beautiful, beautiful track.

slightly off topic but related...

Has anyone seen the Brian Wilson movie with John Cusack in it, semi recent movie a lot about the recording of the album from the persoanl side.... VERY interesting, somewhat dramatised but it seemed to be authorised so hopefully relatively truthful....
