Hello - I have a 135th Anni 5420TG with the Blacktops. I've always had single coil guitars and I wonder if swapping a pair of Dog Ear P90's is feasable? Has it been done? I can fabricate spacers, brackets etc. because Dog Ears mount differently. Not sure about the depth and other dimensions. Thanks

My problem with the dog ear mount is the lack of elevation adjustment. And all single coil pickups are sensitive to how close they are to the strings. You might get lucky and end up with the perfect positioning, but the odds are against you.
As much as I love my P90s, that lack of adjustability is why I don't currently own a Casino.

I'm sure you could do it but with dog ear p90s there would be no way to go back without ugly holes. Why not opt for single coil p90s that are shaped more like a conventional pick up? I know many various types are available.. Then you could also have some height adjustment..as well as being able to reverse it.

There are a few choices for P-90s. Once you go to dog ears, you're stuck with dog ears.

There are shim kits for Casinos so you can raise the pickups...

Lollar P90 shims are your solution. Don't let the Dogear P90s keep you from a Casino if you want one.

Sure! Do it and then post a video. I found this image online of the pickup cavities.

I just put these in my 5222. The link explains all of the different mounting options.

The Riviera P93 comes with metal pickup covers. Taking them off improves the tone. I wanted to keep the look so I ordered plastic covers. After installing them I kept hitting them with my pick. So they had to come off. The spacers remain though. I kinda like them uncovered as I tend to grab the edge of them with my pinky.

True, but my experience with guitars that had proper height adjustment, was that the pickups actually sounded better the further away you got from the string. And that distance is limited to the mount itself. But, that's only my personal perspective.

The strings on my Casino are about 3/8 of an inch above the pickups with the pickups mounted flat to the body, no shims.. For me, compared with other guitar pickup/string heights, that is a little higher than most and probably ideal for the Casino. I wouldn't want to change a thing... Sounds great IMO...
