This guy popped up on marketplace recently. I’ve been thinking about another acoustic lately and then I saw this. The headstock got me. And having electronics didn’t hurt. Traded for a Mexican tele I just couldn’t gel with. I’m happy. Getting new strings and a good neck clean and conditioning later today. She has great tone! I’m not very familiar with the brass string pegs he installed but I dig the sound so I guess they will be fine.

Jealous. Enjoy the new guitar.

Ranchers get mixes reviews on here and I won't buy an acoustic without playing it first I desperately want to try one.
I agree with that. Plays really nice. I love the tone big bold tone. Nice deep lows and great highs. I hate thin sounding acoustics. This one booms!

@PhyscoTiger89,

Don't let anyone fool you, these are wonderful, playable guitars, especially at that price point. They tend to sound closed up at first, but after they settle in, you will find that good comes to those who wait. With a little patience, you will see that they are no only a pretty face. You made a wise purchase, especailly after this has been given the chance to open up. Congratulations!

A setup goes a long way on the Rancher, and I find there's a wide difference between tones with simple string changes. You might see a big difference going to 80/20 from PB, or even the other way around. Mine seems to like 80/20 at the moment, but YMMV.

Ranchers are cool and I wouldn't mind owning one, but already owing several acoustics I've never been able to justify one to myself. The new ones always sounded kinda meh to me in the shops. Its good to know they open up and improve over time.

Im not an acoustic player but I hear open up is needed for all new acoustics. Im getting an acoustic from Santa even those it's my credit card he's using 🤪

I recently installed brass bridge pins on my acoustic, and I did notice a bit more brightness and sustain. With that Rancher jumbo body with a booming bass end, I think the added brightness will be a good thing.

Also, I have recently been using a sound hole humbucker pickup, not sure how you could fit one in that triangular sound hole! :)

High tech method for installation on this one! I am actually planning to add a new jack and thumbwheel volume control for the mag pick up, just to have another option to the built-in piezo.

Your pic just reminded me I have or had one of those fishman pickups laying around somewhere in a box I've forgotten about. The onboard electronics didn't seem to bad but I basically just plugged it in and made sure everything worked. Hoping to have time this weekend to get it cleaned up and get some new strings on her. The ones on it are definitely past there prime. Then I'm going to give the electronics a good run through and see what I think. Not that I need it plugged in ever but its cool it's there if I want to play around with a little delay or reverb.
