Well.....I've had it a couple of weeks. Peters Instruments (Muncie Ind.) Solid slab of Walnut. I replaced the Humbucker with a Lollar Chicago Steel, it can be clean and it can get nasty! It came with B and G benders but I took them off for now until I get more proficient. I have it tuned Open D. Soooo much fun to play!! Right now I'm running it through a Quilter Toneblock 200 and a 2x12 Cab with a delay pedal. My research tells that Lap/Pedal steel players mostly use SS amps now. It sounds great with the Quilter but I have other amps to mess with too. Was looking at Old Fender Champions, etc... but decided on this...for now because it's unique. I'm old now and sit most of the time. Might look around for players that want a lap steel background after I get better. P5280002.JPG

I know a lot of lap Steelers that play Quilters. They sound great. I still prefer my old silverface Fender Princeton for steel work. Not as gritty as a tweed, just that smooth steel tone. Nocturne El Pescadoro is a terrific pedal for reverb and a bit of octal smoosh

Peavy Nashvilles are apparently very popular too. I'm good with what I have now. I finger pick ( a lot of Travis style picking) with guitars. I could never come up with holding a pick one particular way so I just gave up and stuck with fingers. Mark Knopfler and Jeff beck and Albert Collins are huge influences on me. I tried all fingers with the Lap but have settled on using a thumb pick. Absolutely can't use finger picks, too hard to feel the strings when muting. I would be dead before I could get used to them. It's weird at this stage, but I'm getting used to it with hybrid picking. It really helps with attack. Huge fan of Johnny Winter and David Lindley who used thumb picks.
