How to Amplify a Bassoon?

Yeah, I've seen him before. His skills are somewhat superior to my own.
The sound he gets seems more like a bassoon patch than a mic'd bassoon. Maybe he has the fancy "Little Jake"-equipped bocal. Or maybe it's just the nature of the beast.
Edit: OMG now I'm chasing bassoon tone.
