I’ve also not been satisfied with Les Pauls, though I love the look. Now I have a Vintage Select ‘53 Duo Jet I’m in love with. I think it’s really the Filtertrons and Dynasonics that sucked me in. And you’re right, a hollow body Gretsch has a special magic!

Yeah, I saw that one and figured it was a scam as well. I stopped by Guitar Center at South Center last night and played a Broadkaster Jr.... It was very underwhelming. Maybe it was the amp (Supro Delta King 10), or a combination of the two; but it just lacked the clarity and definition that you expect from a Gretsch. It was very mid "heavy" and sort of muddy.

I switched from a Strat to a Tele about 10 years ago and since then have bought 3 Les Pauls— one with PAFs, one with BurstBuckers, and one with P90s—and I just couldn't really find what I was looking for with any of them. I love the single coils in my Tele, they were custom built for me by Pac. N.W. Guitars in Cheney, so now I'm looking for something with Humbuckers and I think the FilterTrons will do the trick!

I asked that Craigslist seller to send me a picture of the label, it is an Electromatic 5422, not the Falcon shown in the stock photo.

I have an Electromatic G5657t which is the same body type as a Broadkaster Jr. Obviously it doesn’t have the same pickups as the one you played, but I love that body size for more of a rocker, so I put TV Jones Supertrons in it (photo has original pickups) and they are fantastic. Certainly they need a little different amp settings from TVJ Classics, but they can have a beautiful sparkle or absolutely roar.

I can also follow the logic that if you’re buying a more expensive Proline model, it makes sense to look for one you love the sound of as is.

I believe that the broadcaster jr. has fulltrons, a little different than what you're looking for. Plus, last time I was in a GC, I went through a princeton, a deluxe reverb, then that Supro. The Supro definitely had the least definition.

That's a beautiful looking guitar!

If I still gigged or recorded, and I wanted a hollow / semi-hollow body to get a certain sound for a song or two, I would, without a doubt, get an Electromatic. I don't think there is any other guitar line out there in this price range that comes close to the build, finish, and feature quality of the Electromatic. But now; between work, kids, honey-do projects, I'm lucky if I get in more than a couple of playing each week. When I do play—whether it be for 5 minutes or 30 minutes—that's my time, and I just want to plug in (and unplug from the world) and make the sweetest sounds I can without much fuss.

Thanks for the info. I hadn't done any research on the Broadkaster specs, as I'm looking for a full-size hollow body.
