They look like the Gretsch-branded mini humbuckers that show up on the baritones and old Pro Jets.
Yep, Gretsch mini buckers, universally despised!
Yet Rabea Masaad made it(them) work on his Baritone demo, so I guess it depends on context and application. Perhaps putting the hours in and honing your chops a bit, who knows.

A friend got a Pro Jet because he liked the tones Jay Farrar from Son Volt got. Give them a chance.

Only, Jay Farrar from Son Volt (at least live) always used Power Jets and recently Broadkasters. Very far away from those minihums.
Btw, I quite like them. Not really Gretsch sounding, but not bad sounding. I like them better of Epi minihums if you ask me.
