Advertising on GT

Today I witnessed that suddenly there is a lot of commercial advertising on this forum.
Is this by design or have I pushed the wrong button and will be punished with spam for the rest of my days?

I always get a small advertising banner above the thread title and a bigger one at the bottom of the thread. On a iPhone if that matters.

Same situation on iphone for me, for whatever that's worth. On a computer there have been several suggestions over a few years for ad blockers with various success rates as I recall.

I had to actually look just now as I don't really "see" the ads anyway (now the ads will be for optomitrists no doubt )

I see it too . Right now it's " Grainger " . Advertisers is what keeps this place afloat . All part of the program ( $$$)

Never say never but I haven't seen enough ads to make me recall having ever seen one here; using DuckDuckGo browser on my Android, with options set for maximum privacy. Let's be honest - 'internet privacy' has become an oxymoron.

I don't even notice the ads. They are there and everywhere else, but if they make this site to be free for us, by all means. Only if they'd open popup windows automatically, like some news sites do, then I'd get annoyed.

There are suddenly ads everywhere here on GT . Just now there are no less then 6 in my window. Two on top and four on the right side.

That's interesting. I'm looking at forum posts on my Android phone and there are no ads at all. I don't remember ever seeing any.

There aren't ads for me on my PC but there are on my Android phone. But like Juks, I don't see ads anywhere, I've become immune, marketers are totally wasting their efforts.

Also using the latest Firefox and I see no advertisements, but I also use ad-blocking software. Like others, I do see ads when I use the app via my iPhone.

Always been banner & sidebar ads here for me unless I'm using an ad blocker extension.

This happened to me about a month ago. It turned out to be something I’d changed… browser, I think. Or updated iOS software. Anyway, it was on my end. I reset some things and it went away.

I use firefox almost exclusively, and ad blocker pro really quells the ad bombardment.

I'm using Brave as a browser and I don't see ads, it must be blocking them.

Oh fine, I went and whitelisted. Usually reserved for wrestling sites, but the ads here are also not obnoxious, although Google is trying to sell me furniture, and I have no room with all the instruments and pedals...
