Well, the New Electromatic G5422tg in Walnut stain continues to impress 3 weeks in and its become quite the 'Teacher' in that it now has me trying new things that I would never have thought of doing and while they don't all come off, it continues to be a constant source of inspiration and pushes me in directions that I had not thought of before...the combination of Gretsch design and Korean Lutherie is an awesome combination and while the Professional and Custom Gretsch's maybe superior, its very hard to imagine a much better Hollow body guitar at this price point...I am one very contented New Gretsch owner...of course the '22 could well end up becoming a 'Gateway' guitar for yet further Gretsch's... I better start saving.

Cheers Mark

"Just beautiful! I am also anxiously awaiting a G5422TG to arrive, but in Midnight Sapphire."

I love my fitty-foh, but you had to say "midnight sapphire'.
Damn. There goes my 'stimulus' money.

BSD...

I love that model, in that color.

As close as you can get these days to a double cut Nashville.

I especially like the neck top height off the body, allowing a wood based bridge, the ''correct Bigsby'', the open gear ''butter bean'' tuners, and the ''57'' hump back fret markers..

I have been considering adding this model to my herd for a long time.

Congratulations!

BIB.

I really like all the Gretsch colors, but something about the wood grain finishes is just very elegant. That walnut stain looks even better in person, I bet. I like the thin full body size. You get just enough acoustic volume to practice quietly by yourself without an amp if you really want to work on your technique. And when you do amp it up, the bracing from the top to the back lets you crank it up without feedback, about as much as you need.

PS - a football jack plate looks just right on one of these...

I think that the Midnight Sapphire is the most gorgeous blue finish that Gretsch does on any guitar....and the Cadillac Green is also a drop dead stunning colour option and these two colours (along with the Walnut stain and the White option) matched against the gold hardware, are pretty much an unbeatable combinations IMHO...It was really hard to choose between these 4 options but in the end I loved the "woodiness" of the Walnut stain option the most....

Thanks BIB... yes the aesthetics that Gretsch have come up with in their designs is particularly obvious in in the G5422tg models and for those of us whose pockets are not deep enough to go to a 'Professional' series then these are a very, very acceptable alternative while still getting that "Great Gretsch Sound"...Its funny, I have seen the advertising slogans around that "Great Gretsch Sound" since forever, which Gretsch have used for years in both their Guitars and Drums that they sell and thought, aww that just some marketing hype but I now know that there very much is a "Great Gretsch Sound" and they do sound unique and totally different...to my ear the Gretsch sound is the great alternative sound of USA designed electric guitars...that sets them well apart from the usual run of the mill Fender and Gibson sounds and that's why I love them...which is no disrespect to Fender or Gibson guitars but there is a "Southern" bite or twang to the Gretsch tone which really appeals to my ear.

Hi GlenP yes the Walnut stain looks amazing in the flesh and the depth of gloss in the finish is also stunning ...I deliberately tried to photograph the G5422tg so as to minimise the gloss finish so that the beauty of the stain came through...I have also cranked up the volume and yes if you really max the gain up there will be feedback but its very controllable and unless you are playing Death Metal or Thrash levels of distortion it will cover most genres or styles of music very smoothly

Lovely pics you posted Mark - enjoy.

I've had an MiK 5422 for a few years that I love.
It was excellent out of the box but the extensive upgrades I've done have made it even better.
Interesting how the gold v chrome hardware gives the walnut a whole new vibe :)

Mark,

Thanks for sharing and for the update. Many of us own the MIK 512x and 542x series for the same reasons you mentioned.
What I have found here is that we are not guitar snobs, but enjoy the success and happiness we find in our guitars.
There is no shame is owing these wonderful instruments, thanks for contributing to this forum.

At the end of the day, you made a wise/wonderful decision with your G5422TG, pat yourself on the back!

We always told our customers that deep pockets do not always correlate to deep enjoyment.
